ABOUT ME

Maddox Lyons is a twelve-year-old transgender boy who lives in California with his parents, sister, two dogs, and two pet rats. After he came out, Maddox and his family went in search of books for and about kids like him. There were very few, so he set out to write one. I'm Not a Girl is based on his true gender identity journey.

Maddox does advocacy and outreach with LGBTQIA+ organizations. He loves drawing and writing, acting, figure skating, and getting lost in a good book.

He is represented by Kate McKean of the Howard Morhaim Literary Agency.

BOOK

Nobody seems to understand that Hannah is not a girl.

His parents don’t understand why he doesn’t like all the cute clothes they pick out. His friend thinks he must be a tomboy. His teacher insists he should be proud to be a girl. But a birthday wish, a new word, and a stroke of courage might be just what Hannah needs to finally show the world who he really is.

Based on a true transgender identity journey, I’m Not a Girl is an empowering story about a boy who is determined to be himself.
